Canopy windows and oscillo-flap
Canopy windows are the ones provided with a hinge at the top and open from the bottom by means of a crank. Canopy windows are popular in old houses, commercial and industrial buildings and quite often in basements. It is an ideal window for the rigorous control of ventilation in all seasons. When it is closed, the more the wind blows against the window, the more it closes hermetically against its seal.
However, the oscillo-flap window leans inward in oscillating mode or as a flap. In oscillating mode, the heat is evacuated through the top and avoids direct air currents. We use the flap mode to maximize ventilation and to wash the outside of the windows.
All our canopy windows are offered in various materials: wood, wood and aluminum, PVC, fiberglass and hybrid. The oscillo-flap are offered in PVC and hybrid.
This window opens identically the same way as a door. As on the latter, the orientation of the hinge is to the left or to the right and the non-articulated side has a catch lock. Their immense popularity is due to the small crank allowing them to open easily and the lock offers a maximum of protection against break-ins. The casement window does not open by means of a button or handle, but by using a crank. The casement window is an ideal choice for numerous architectural styles. Used alone or in combination with other windows, casement windows offer an excellent clear viewing surface as well as superior ventilation. Furthermore, given that the flap closes by compression on the weatherstripping, this type of window generally obtains superior results in tests for air and waterproofing.

TYPE OF MATERIAL
When it becomes necessary to buy new windows, several important elements should be considered. Obviously, the style of window mentioned previously which you will choose will have an enormous impact on the image of your residence or other type of building.
What kind of material will you choose for your windows? Modern windows can be made in a vast range of materials, each offering its own advantages.
Wooden windows: warmth
Windows made of wood are well known for their beauty and elegance. They can be designed to match any style, be it modern or traditional. Generally built of massive wood such as pine, Spanish cedar or other types of wood, the wooden window can be tinted in a multitude of colors. Because wood is a natural insulating material, they offer an excellent energy efficiency. As all wooden products, wooden windows are sensitive to damage caused by the climate, but regularly maintained they can last for a very long time.
Aluminum windows pass the test of time
Preferred by consumers for the last fifty years, aluminum windows can be made in an impressive range of styles and colors and require little maintenance. Given that aluminum is a heat conductor, aluminum frames are generally empty (filled with air) or filled with foam insulation or another non-conducting heat product to create a thermal bridge with the outside. Aluminum windows are generally cheaper than the wooden windows. The resistance of this material justifies its manufacturing and is one that preserves its aesthetic quality over the years, requiring minimal maintenance.
Windows made of PVC: easy maintenance
Windows in vinyl or in PVC offers an excellent value to the consumers. Less expensive than the wooden or aluminum windows, windows made of PVC are less durable in the long run than the latter, but they offer a excellent energy efficiency. The range of styles and colors is generally more limited than some aluminum.
As the recycled vinyl tends to go yellow in time and to crack after an extended exposure to the elements, it is very important to be assured that your vinyl windows are not made of recycled PVC. A large number of windows in PVC, such as those sold in hardware stores or large surface stores, are made of recycled PVC.
Fiberglass: the compromise
Windows made of fiberglass insures strength and superior stability. By its strength, high thermal performance and low level of maintenance, pultrusion fiberglass exceeds other types of window products. All windows and frames are available with nailing blades integrated into the frame to facilitate the installation besides insuring that the surrounding openings are waterproof.
Because of its resistance, frames of pultruded fiberglass windows can be narrower, offering a much greater visibility surface without sacrificing the resistance of the window. Windows of pultruded fiberglass are stronger and have a life expectancy longer than wooden windows
Fiberglass is resistance to humidity, extreme heat or cold or conditions of acidity. It maintains its dimensional stability during extreme thermal variations. Submitted to conditions of extreme cold, windows of vinyl and aluminum can undergo massive air leaks.
Pultruded fiberglass is a better insulating material than vinyl, aluminum and even wood.
Fiberglass not only does not rot, it does not flake and twist, and is resistant in humidity and will not deteriorate in time.
Hybrid windows: an ecological choice
The hybrid window offers the beauty and efficiency of wood plus the sturdiness of aluminum or steel, and PVC. The outside of the frame is covered with aluminum, steel, or PVC and the internal portion is made of wood. This material offers an effective thermal bridge making the hybrid window very ecoenergetic.
